MARCHÉ DES ENFANTS ROUGES

This is the oldest Parisian market ( 1615 ). Today the small indoor food market is great for its fresh products ( fruits, vegetables, fishes, oysters, cheeses, hams, breads, crêpes  … ), but I love to go there on saturday at lunch time. They have 5 or 6 different small restaurants ( cafeteria and take away ). Prices around 10 and 15 euros. Last weekend, I took a Couscous Royal and a cup of minth tea. The Bento boxes ( Chez Taeko ) are also fabulous. The market is opened Tuesday to Saturday from 8.30 am till 7.30 pm. Sunday from 8.30 am till 2.00 pm.

By the way did you know that the name “Les Enfants Rouges” comes from an orphanage opened in 1536. The orphans were called “The Red Children” due to their red clothes. The orphelinat had to close in 1772. In order to pay tribute to the children, the neighborhood inhabitants decided to called the market ” Le Marché des Enfants rouges”.
